Adsense Keyword Tips

"How do I find a profitable keyword niche?" is a question asked by many web authors and bloggers.  The answer isn't that hard, but to find a profitable keyword niche, there is a little online work involved.  Remember that there are thousands of other web and blog creators out there trying to do the same thing, so you will want to make sure you have a strong keyword niche that isn't being used by everyone else.

1. Research Profitable Keywords

There are literally thousands of profitable keywords and keyword phrases out there.  The trick is to find one that will deliver the best traffic results, thus generating more online revenue.  When first researching top paying cost per click keywords, you will get lists that are generally the same: lawyers, debt consolidation, mesothelioma, credit cards, home loans, etc.  These keywords are profitable, yes, but the are also keywords targeted by many other web and blog authors out there.

So, you have two choices.  You can try a more targeted, specific keyword related to the commonly sought after keyword niches, or you can try to find your own.  If you decide to try a more targeted keyword approach, then here is where the Google Adword Tool can help.

The Adword tool allows you to enter a keyword, or several keywords, and once entered, will deliver results in the form of: number of times that keyword was searched in the last month, the average CPC for that keyword, advertiser competition for that keyword, and much more.

Let's say that 'loan consolidation' is the keyword you would like to create a website or blog about.  When you enter the keyword phrase loan consolidation, you get a large list of results.  If you order them by CPC rank, highest CPC first, you get these first 15 results:
  1. federal government student loan consolidation - $39.41
  2. student loan consolidation interest rates - $38.40
  3. student loan consolidation rates - $38.07
  4. consolidating private student loans - $37.71
  5. student loan consolidation comparison - $37.48
  6. loan consolidation service - $37.38
  7. college loans consolidation - $37.36
  8. student loan consolidation gov - $36.93
  9. student loans consolidation - $36.70
  10. students loan consolidation - $36.33
  11. consolidation of student loans - $35.64
  12. consolidating student loans - $35.15
  13. student loan debt consolidation - $35.02
  14. consolidate school loans - $35.02
  15. online student loan consolidation - $34.86
Notice that loan consolidation isn't among the top 15 paying keywords, even though those were the only two keywords entered.  The Adword tool delivers both broad and specific results related to that keyword.

Now, since the objective is to find a more specific keyword related to loan consolidation, you decide on 'online student loan consolidation'.  Now you have your keyword niche, and can begin making your blog and website content using that keyword.

If deciding to go another route and stay away from the list of common top paying CPC keywords, then you have a little more work ahead of you.  The research aspect really kicks in here.

Try and think of something you enjoy doing.  Then, start researching keywords for that topic.  For example, let's say you love dogs and want to make a website about dogs.  Well, the keyword 'dogs' is a little too generic, so you start using the Adwords tool to see if there are any keywords related to dog.

Here are 5 examples:
  1. Dog supplies
  2. Dog Training
  3. Dog Breeds
  4. Walking Dogs
  5. Dog Grooming
After searching for awhile, you settle on dog training and bring up the following list of profitable CPC rates:
  1. dog training certification - $7.99
  2. career dog training - $7.02
  3. dog training careers - $6.65
  4. capital dog training - $5.92
  5. professional dog training - $5.81
  6. dog training online - $5.54
  7. dog training jobs - $5.45
  8. dog training school - $4.99
  9. private dog training - $4.93
  10. canine dog training - $4.81
  11. dog training schools - $4.66
  12. dog training products - $4.65
  13. dog training class - $4.63
  14. service dog training - $4.58
  15. off leash dog training - $4.39
Now you have a whole list of keywords related to 'dog training' to start basing your web content around.  This is how you do your research on high CPC keyword niches.

2.  Look up keywords in the meta tag

Another method of researching keywords is to go to a website or blog about the keyword niche you are looking up and right click on the site.  Then you want to click the View Page Source option, which will bring up the website's or blog's source code.

At the very top of this code, look for the keyword meta tag.  This will show what keywords similar sites and blogs are targeting.  This can give you ideas, but also help you know which keywords to use and which to avoid.  The keyword meta tag will look something like this:
  • <meta name="Keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2, keyword3">
If enough sites are using the same keyword over and over, you may want to try another route, as competition for traffic may leave your website running short on readers.

3.  Experiment with keywords

Once you have your site up and running, it is okay to test out different keywords and keyword placements.  Try to find out what generates the most CPC revenue for you.  Certain keywords will display specific ads, so continue to experiment with keywords until you have found a working formula.

For instance, if you make a website about blogging for money, and are getting sporatic ads that are unrelated, check your keywords.  Make sure 'blogging for money', or keywords such as 'make money blogging' and 'earn money by blogging' are consistent throughout your content.

Finding a profitable keyword niche

In the end, finding a profitable keyword niche can take some hard work.  Good web and blog authors will thoroughly research their keywords before implementing them into content.

Make sure to find keywords that will generate traffic, and deliver high quality CPC ads.  After all, the more a reader enjoys your content, and the more relevant the content is to the advertisements, the likelier it will be that the reader clicks on the advertisements, thus making you money.
